Contextual Learning from Afar

Operating a cruise ship at anchor can cost nearly $500k a day, with staff being both high turnover and typically international. Docking a ship for even a day for training is expensive. Royal Caribbean constantly needs to train new crew members on various elements of the job from guest experience to the physical areas of the ship they will be serving on.

Me and my team developed Global Orientation for the Liberty of the Seas. A professional camera crew was sent aboard and took 360° panoramic photos of each area of the ship. We deployed a Flash-based 3D panoramic engine embedded in a web-based curriculum program that allowed incoming replacement staff to complete initial training before ever setting foot on the ship.
